Radio Academy organises disability in radio webinar

The Radio Academy is continuing its series of free Diversity & Inclusion webinars with an event focused on disability in audio and radio.

Building on the work started with the Race on Audio & Radio webinars in 2020, the Disability webinar will share the lived experiences of Disabled colleagues working in broadcasting in the UK.

The purpose is to provide a platform for discussion, where people can share their stories and experiences (both positive and negative) about working in the UK radio and audio sector. The series aims to create an opportunity for contributors to suggest solutions and actions we can all take to make our industry a more welcoming and inclusive place.

The Disability in Radio & Audio event will take place at 5.30pm on Tuesday 2 February, and will be hosted by Kate Monaghan, presenter of the BBC’s Ouch podcast. Contributors will include Eshaan Akbar (BBC Asian Network), Loren Eley (Bauer Media), Holly Keogh (Wireless) and more names to be confirmed.

The event will be produced by Reelworld Radio Academy 30-Under-30 alumnus Darby Dorras (Somethin’ Else) and discuss the tremendous range of physical and mental conditions covered by the legal definition of disability, and look at initiatives in place with major broadcasters and publishers that aim to reframe disability on-air and in the workplace.

The webinars are free and open to Radio Academy members and non-members alike, and people can register now at radioacademy.org/disability.
